The sundial built by Mr. Culloton (Biology) and Mr. Feimer (Physics) in the courtyard by the ramp going down to the library. A sundial is a timepiece that indicates the daylight hours by the shadow that the gnomon casts on a calibrated dial. In the picture the gnomon is the wood pointer, which points directly at the North (Polar) Star.
The limestone blocks are the hour markers upon which the shadow of the sun falls. Also found in this courtyard is an arch that works as a solar calendar marking annual astronomical events such as the summer solstice."
