Curriculum Offerings and Course Description

COMPUTER SCIENCE COURSES

Programming courses ranging from introductory level to Advanced Placement are aimed at students interested in the fields of math, science or engineering. The course Computer Concepts and Applications (see Business Department listing) enables students to explore a wide range of software applications. All Computer Science courses must have the approval of course instructor or department chairperson.

INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO EDITING #17214 .5 Credit
This course will primarily explore the creation and editing of videos using Apple’s iLife program suite. Students will learn proper video techniques, audio manipulation, lighting and editing. Topics will also include video design, graphic designs, storyboarding, photography, and presentation skills.

INTRODUCTION TO INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES & WEB DEVELOPMENT #17314
.5 Credit
This course will explore the history, architecture, and development of the World Wide Web. Current HTML tagging and scripting languages will be covered in a tool independent environment. Topics will also include authoring tools, design, graphic and multimedia formats, commerce, implementation, and security issues. Prerequisite: Keyboarding and Information Processing

PROGRAMMING WITH JAVA #17414 .5 Credit
This course is designed for students with previous programming experience who wish to learn more advanced programming techniques. Students will learn Java and explore Java variants. Students will also learn programming techniques for the web. Lab work is required. Some outside lab work required. Prerequisites: Computer Concepts and Applications.

PROGRAMMING WITH MICROSOFT VB.NET #17514 .5 Credit
Visual Basic .NET is designed to be the easiest and most productive tool for creating .NET applications. The course covers object oriented programming, event handling, and Windows application design and development. Prerequisites: Computer Concepts and Applications.

COMPUTER SCIENCE A ADVANCED PLACEMENT #17426 1 Credit
This course emphasizes program and algorithm design, data structures and Java classes using the A.P. Java class subset. Students will learn the basics of object-oriented programming using Java. Students will study the A.P. Case Study program and acquire the necessary skills to succeed on the A.P. examination. Outside lab work is required. Prerequisites: B or above in Programming with Java. Consent of instructor is REQUIRED.

COMPUTER SCIENCE AB ADVANCED PLACEMENT #17436 1 Credit
This course includes advanced topics covered in the A.P. Computer Science AB exam, including advanced data structures, A.P. class subset, stacks and queues and advanced object-oriented programming with Java. Outside lab work is required. Prerequisites: B or above in Programming with Java or Computer Science A Advanced Placement. Consent of instructor is REQUIRED.
