Curriculum Offerings and Course Description

PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSES

One and one fourth credits in Physical Education and one fourth credit in Health are required (c.f. physical education policy). Students unable to participate for more than one half of the quarter (4 1/2 weeks) will be asked to withdraw from the class with no credit. Students' grades are included in their GPA. Grades are computed on skill test, written tests, dressed daily in proper uniform for class, cooperation and sportsmanship displayed in the class environment.

Physically injured students must be able to participate in at least 1/2 of daily classes to receive credit for nine weeks.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1 #15114 .5 Credit
This is a freshmen course with an emphasis on an introduction into physical education. Students will be involved in a variety of team and individual activities that stress teamwork, sportsmanship, a basic knowledge of the rules, and getting to know their new classmates. Fundamental instruction will be given in softball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, archery, and juggling.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2 #15214 Includes health requirement .5 Credit
This is a required sophomore course, which includes health instruction. Students will study the importance of nutrition, body toning, and aerobic activity necessary to live a healthy lifestyle. Students will enhance their classroom study through practical experience in the gym, weight room, and track facilities. This course fulfills their state health requirement.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 3 #15414 .5 Credit
This one-semester course is an introduction to weight training and fitness. Students will be instructed in the use of free weights, weight machines, and rubber band resistance. Cardiovascular training will be experienced through Tae-Bo, steppers, jump ropes, stationary bikes, and running. Students will use polar heart monitors to assist in cardiovascular training.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 4 #15514 .5 Credit
TEAM SPORTS
This one-semester course offered to students who desire to participate in team activities through physical education. Students will be educated in the fundamentals of sports with an emphasis on team building, organization, sportsmanship, and the knowledge of the rules. Activities may include flag football, soccer, volleyball, floor hockey, speedball, lacrosse, basketball, softball, and track and field.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 5 #15424 .5 Credit
INDIVIDUAL AND PARTNER SPORTS
This one-semester course is offered to students who desire to participate in individual and partner activities through physical education. Students will be educated in the fundamentals of sports with an emphasis on working together, organization, sportsmanship, and the knowledge of the rules. Activities may include tennis, golf, juggling, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, and starball.
