A credit in Theology is required each year. The grade is included in the grade point average and class rank.

BASIC BELIEFS/HEBREW SCRIPTURES #01114 1 Credit
This course for freshmen begins with the study of basic Catholic beliefs and practices. To enrich the understanding of the Christian heritage, second semester focuses on Hebrew Scriptures. A four six week unit presents the Catholic perspective on sexuality to help students look at Christian values and morals and encourage them to make personal choices according to these values.

CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURES/CHURCH: NATURE AND HISTORY #01214 1 Credit
This study of the Christian Scriptures seeks to develop knowledge of the person and mission of Jesus and to deepen students' relationship with Him. The second semester focuses on the development of the Church throughout history and on the Church's role in the modern world.

WORSHIP, LITURGY AND SACRAMENTS/CHRISTIAN ETHICS #01314/#01324 1 Credit
The first semester flows from the study of the Christian Scriptures and Church, emphasizing the role of the Catholic as a faith filled witness in and to the world. The nature and importance of the Catholic sacramental and spiritual life are studied from both the historical and contemporary perspective. During the second semester, students study Christian moral principles involved in living as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLES #01414 .5 Credit
This one semester required course explores the married, single, and religious life styles in the context of Christian commitment and human growth. The course assists seniors in the development of their own sexual and vocational identities.

CHRISTIAN LIVING AND THE WRITERS' VISION #01424 .5 Credit
This one semester course explores the married, single, and religious life styles in the context of Christian commitment and growth, but also through literature. Students will be expected to read several books, as well as the text. The course assists seniors in the development of their own sexual and vocational identities.

SOCIAL JUSTICE #01434 .5 Credit
This one semester elective course awakens students to the social dimension of Christian faith and begins to empower them to respond to critical modern issues. Human dignity, multicultural appreciation, economic justice, personal and global peacemaking, and science and technology are discussed in light of Gospel values and current Church teachings. Practicing Christian service and working toward justice are integral elements of this course.
SOCIAL ISSUES WITH AN ETHICAL PERSPECTIVE #01444
This course follows the outline of the Social Justice course #01434 including additional teachings from areas of the Social Sciences. This allows for critical use of social analysis preliminary to discussion of Christian ethical responses. The course receives a Social Studies credit while fulfilling a senior Religion course requirement.
DISCOVERY IN SERVICE #01954 .5 Credit
This one semester elective course provides for the study of peace and justice issues and for an experience in Catholic social service as students are assigned as aides to community agencies. Three days a week, two periods are used for service on a released time basis. In school classes focusing on leadership theory and the spirituality of the laity are scheduled two days a week. Enrollment is limited and instructor’s and dean’s approval is required.
WORLD RELIGIONS #01464 .5 Credit
This one semester elective course will inform students of the development of various religious traditions. This survey course will familiarize students with the people, dimensions, and religious principles of the world’s major religions, such as, Primal Religions, Eastern Religions, Western Religions, and Religions in the Modern World.
DOMINICAN PREACHING INSTITUTE #01974 .5 Credit
The Preaching Institute for high school seniors is a week long summer program held off campus in concert with nationwide Dominican High Schools. Students will explore Dominican preaching: the Word in daily life, prayer, and global impact. Students must be prepared to integrate the preaching experience into their school ministries. Enrollment is limited: see the Director of Campus Ministry for details regarding date, place and fee. This course fulfills .5 credit of elective religion class for seniors. Students must fulfill the additional .5 credit requirement by taking either course Christian Lifestyles #01414 or Christian Living and the Writers’ Vision #01424.
