Long Range Planning

   Marian Catholic High School has sustained its educational excellence because of its commitment to its mission, a vision of outstanding academics and activities in a community of faith.  This vision is never created in a vacuum, but is enlivened by careful planning born of making dreams become reality.

   Focus groups studied the following: Alumni, Fine Arts (Architecture and CAD, Forensics), Faith and Life, Athletics, Public Relations, Student Leadership, Faculty and Staff Professional Development, Financial Aid, College Counseling, Facilities–Preventative Maintenance Cycle, Cafeteria/Kitchen/Food Service, Recruitment and Admissions, Distance Learning/Dual Credit Programs, Integral Learning, Security, Foundation, Summer Programs, Technology.

   Following is a breakdown of goals and suggested perspectives from LRP committees:

Academics

   Strengthen the curriculum to ensure Marian Catholic High School's position as a premier college preparatory institution

   1. Broaden each curriculum area to further include components that challenge students to think critically and creatively.
   2. Provide further resources, including strong technologies, to enhance integrated student learning at all levels.
   3. Further engage faculty in ongoing best practices to assure excellence in teaching.
   4. Research distance learning and increased university credit programs to determine the benefit to our students.
   5. Continue to encourage year-round learning for current students through strong summer academic programs.

Counseling

Examine the college counseling program to determine new ways to maximize student acceptance and scholarship awards

   1. Engage parents more deeply in the college counseling process.
   2. Increase interaction with highly selective institutions to further highlight and distinguish the benefits of the MCHS program.
   3. Evaluate the processes of the counseling program to ensure that the best interest of each individual student is served.
   4. Continue the dialogues with informed parties to ensure that MCHS is maintaining a leadership position among area college preparatory schools.

Programs and Activities

Strengthen key elements of current programs in order to forward the Mission of Marian Catholic High School

   1. Deepen the religious environment of MCHS (including program enhancements across the curriculum) to help students experience faith as a more integral part of their lives.
   2. More strongly encourage sacramental formation and active engagement in the ministry of the Church, especially at the students' local parishes.
   3. Implement a four-year peer leadership program, which will include training and recognition, designed to further emphasize the importance of developing leadership qualities.
   4. Build self-sustaining extracurricular, athletic, and fine arts programs that involve the maximum number of students and that demonstrate and support the values and Mission of MCHS.
   5. Strengthen personal relationships with alumni, who are an invaluable resource in planning and building new programs, through two-way communication and involvement.

Facilities

Ensure that current facilities are safe and well maintained to support current Marian Catholic High School programs; and continue annual planning for future facilities.

   1. Consider a variety of capital projects that would have a positive impact on students, faculty, staff and programs, including:
            a. Exploring various long-term options for kitchen/cafeteria depending on student            program need;
            b. Completing the Athletics Initiative at Marian (AIM) project;
            c. Examining the expansion of the theatre, band practice area, choral and art rooms, and the need for a broadcasting/media center;
   2. Continue to develop and implement a comprehensive security plan, modeling the plan proposed by the Focus Group, to include appropriate equipment, technology, personnel and training.

Marketing/Recruitment

Assure that we successfully recruit those students and families who are in concert with the Mission and values of Marian Catholic High School.

   1. Expand current public relations efforts to enhance the perception of Marian as an overall best school choice for college-bound students.
   2. Make better use of Internet marketing and the Marian web site to augment recruitment efforts.
   3. Focus recruitment efforts in enrollment growth areas, making better use of partnerships with local parish schools and religious education programs.

Finance

Secure the resources to assure both outstanding school programs and the opportunity for qualified students to attend Marian Catholic High School.

   1. Establish additional resources for funding financial aid to augment Endowed Scholarships, Sr. Simeon's Fund for emergency tuition aid, and the annual contribution by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield.
   2. Establish a Foundation that reflects and serves the Mission of Marian Catholic.
   3. Examine financial aid policies (including a recipient response to the spirit of generosity experienced) to ensure policies meet current financial realities and future needs.
