Abraham Lincoln Book Discussion Group
Moderator: Mrs. Ann Jones
The club will read and discuss several chosen books each school year.
Astronomy Club Moderator: Mr. Bill Feimer
The Astronomy Club will meet to plan night observations of the sky, discuss sky gazing and celestial phenomenon, and work on learning about the proper use of telescopes.
Blood Drives
Moderator: Mrs. Jennifer Lamb
Throughout the school year students 16 years and older are encouraged to donate blood through our on-campus annual blood drive.
Bowling Club Moderator: Mrs. Sue Silander
The bowling club begins meeting in January and runs for 10 weeks. Co-ed teams are formed and students bowl for fun and competition. Meetings are held at Lakewood Bowl.
Computer Club
Moderator: Mrs. Joelyn Carlasare
Students work with and learn different programs as well as creating projects.
Chess Club
Moderator: Mr. Peter Panozzo
Students meet weekly to play chess, discuss strategies, and refine their skills. This group meets throughout the school year.
Diverse Voices
Moderator: Ms. Adriane Haines
Diverse Voices is an organization that came about through the efforts of the MCHS Anti-Racism Team. It is a student advocacy group that aims to educate students about race, ethnicity, and injustices. The club will be a safe place for students to voice concerns, celebrate cultural differences, promote anti-racism among students, and build unity in the MCHS student body.
Equestrian Club
Moderator: Mrs. Ellen Longawa
Membership in the Equestrian Club will provide students with a better understanding of horses. Students will be riding horses as part of this club, and will have the opportunity to take lessons.
French National Honor Society Moderator: Mrs. Sandy Riley
Members may attend out of school field trips such as museums, plays, or restaurants relating to the French language and culture. Membership may be earned by maintaining an A average through the end of the 5th semester of French.
Generation Green
Moderator: Ms. Jennifer Clifford
Students will discuss their concerns about the environment, ecology, conservation, recycling, and the preservation of nature. Students will perform service in school to promote ecology and the environment.
Gospel Choir
Moderators: Ms. Jen Pasyk
This is a fairly new group at Marian Catholic. Members will work to enhance our liturgical celebrations with song. All students are welcome to join.
History Club Moderator: Mr. Bob Rodey
The History Club allows students to explore historical topics as well as current events. Movies, guest speakers, and field trips are incorporated into the club.
International Club
Moderators: Ms. Samantha Chapleau and Ms. Sarah Grauvogl
The purpose of the International Club is to broaden students' awareness of different people and cultures of the world. Foreign Exchange students will present information about their countries. Meetings will take place monthly.
Latin National Honor Society Moderator: Ms. Kelly Loris
Members of the National Latin Honor Society compete in national and state contests. Students are recommended for membership after maintaining an A or B average in Latin for at least 3 years.
Literary Society
Moderator: Mr. Mike Raftery
Students read, meet, and discuss selected novels throughout the school year.
The Mariner, School Yearbook

Moderators: Sr. Mary Jo Sobieck
Members work to take, select, and crop pictures of school activities for the yearbook. Students will also write copy to accompany the photographs. A computer program is used to produce the yearbook.
Math Club
Moderator: Mr. Nick Rohn and Mrs. Nancy Werner
The Math Club is an organization of students who are interested in mathematics. The members compete in math contests, tutor other students, and prepare an 8th grade math contest. See any member of the math department for more information.
Marian Megaphone, student newspaper Moderators: Mr. Nick Rohn and Ellen Longawa
The newspaper is published monthly throughout the school year. There is a need for staff members, reporters, and photographers. Meetings are held after school.
Model U.N. -

Model United Nations is a simulation activity focusing on civics, communication, globalization, and international diplomacy. In Model U.N. students take on roles as foreign diplomats and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization such as the United Nations Security Council or the European Union. Participants research a country, take on a role as a diplomat, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to real-world problems.
Mu Alpha Theta (Math National Honor Society)
Moderators: Mr. Nick Rohn
This group is sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. Membership is by invitation only after 4 semesters of outstanding work in college preparatory mathematics courses. Members must also give some service in mathematics.
National Honor Society Moderators: Mr. Thomas Golden and Mrs. Mary Ann Golden
The NHS recognizes and encourages scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Membership, based on grade point average and service activities, is by invitation only during the junior or senior year. Click here to view the NHS written policy.
Operation Snowball Moderator: Mrs. Linda Savick
The Operation Snowball retreat takes place in February each year. This retreat promotes positive peer influence, self-esteem, teen communication with family and friends, and a drug-free lifestyle. Listen for announcements at the beginning of second semester to sign up for this retreat.
Philosophy Club

Students meet and discuss the world of philosophy.
Psychology Club
Moderator: Mr. Scott Bodnar
Members of the Psychology Club will discuss psychological topics, movies, and career information. Psychology Week will be promoted, and field trips may be taken.
Recruitment Corps
Moderator: Sr. Dorothy Marie
By recommendation from several teachers, students can be chosen for the Recruitment Corps. Recruitment Corps members assist the Recruiting Office by visiting area grammar schools and working on the various recruiting events held at Marian Catholic.
Service Club Moderator: Sr. Dorothy Marie
Service Club is one of the largest and most active groups at Marian. There are a wide variety of service projects to choose from, such as cooking meals for the homeless, participating in bake sales and car washes, and entertaining inner-city children. You may choose to participate in one or all of these events.
Spanish National Honor Society Moderator: Mrs. Nancy Holmes
Members in Spanish NHS must have a 3.6 GPA in Spanish classes for a minimum of 5 semesters. Membership is by invitation only to those currently enrolled in Honors level or above.
Speech/Forensics Team
Moderator: Mr. Mark Donaway
Speech Team members compete on an individual basis with team members from other schools. Categories include dramatic performance, duet acting, poetry and short story readings, speech writing, speech performance, and current event speaking. Students practice two or three times a week with one of the coaches.
Stage Techs Moderator: Mr. Mark Donaway
Students who are members of Stage Techs are behind the scenes theater people who build sets, run lights and sound, and keep the auditorium running.
Student Council
Moderators: Mrs. Jennifer Lamb and Mrs. Mary Mesterharm
The Student Council provides a means by which the students can address school-related issues and help plan school events. Representatives are elected from EMMAUS groups and will meet as needed during the school year.
Super Fan Club

A student group which encourages active participation and fan support for all extra-curriculars.
Thespians
Moderator: Mr. Mark Donaway
You can become a member of the International Thespian Society by earning points through hours spent on stage or backstage. The Marian Thespians present two productions a year - one in the fall and one in the spring. Listen for announcements about tryouts.
Video Crew
Moderators: Mrs. Joelyn Carlasare and Mr. Sean Scanlon
Members of this group will work to learn to film, edit, and create videos for teams, events, and special activities.
SUPPORT GROUPS
C.A.R.E. (Student Assistance Program) Moderator: Mrs. Joanna LaBelle
Children at Risk in Education is a group involved in the prevention and intervention in drug and alcohol use and abuse. Confidential referrals are taken from students, parents, and staff members.
Positive Peers Moderator: Ms. Marcheta Smith
Marian offers this peer support program for any student who has suffered a loss through death or the separation or divorce of parents. Students meet with other students and faculty who have had similar experiences and have the opportunity to share with one another about those experiences. |
