Service Club

Service Club members work in Appalachia

Marian students do fix-up work during the annual Service Club trip to Appalachia.

   Information about any Service Club events, including leaf-raking for seniors, may be obtained from Sr. Dorothy Marie.
Service Club meets each Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Study Hall.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:
  Dec. 2- Service Club bakes cookies and wraps holiday gifts for the elderly and local families in need, 5 to 7 p.m.
  Dec. 8- Students will serve a meal to the needy at St. Anne in Hazel Crest, 5 p.m.
  Dec. 17- SC will play games with seniors at The Park in Oly Fields, 6:30 pm
  Dec. 18-19- Students will prepare a meal for the homeless in the Leadership Center (Thu., 2:30 p.m.), then serve it on Friday at St. Agnes Parish, 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Catholic Schools Opposing Racism (COR)

Marianīs Dave Buck `03 enjoys dinner at the COR Dinner at Queen of Peace High School in Oct. 2002.

   Moderator Nick Rohn and four Marian seniors (David Buck, Katie Calhoun, Brian Haywood, Carla Malabanan) attended the Catholic Schools Opposing Racism (COR) Supper on Oct. 9 at Queen of Peace High School.
     The Supper included a teacher's workshop and several activities and presentations on "Turning CORners: How can we see our true colors."

Equestrian Club

     The Marian Equestrian Club takes riding lessons and occasionally participates in rides and competitions.

Math Club

   The Math Team, led by Elizabeth Berger (25th place), Emily Verkruyse (11th), Chris Lilek (20th), Paul Pelock (10th) and Colleen Peabody (27th), earned fourth place in Class AA at the Math Teachers Association contest on Feb. 21 at Loyola University.

Service Club Regular Activities

Preparing a meal for the homeless- students chop vegetables and lettuce for salad, prepare casseroles and bake dessert once a month to feed the homeless.
Feeding the homeless- students go to St. Agnes on the third Friday of each month to serve the meal they prepared.
Critter Crossings- students visit an animal refuge serveral times a month to help out by cleaning, feeding and just doing whatever is needed.
Share Your Soles- students collect shoes for needy people and once a month go to the warehouse to sort and box shoes for mailing overseas and to needy areas within the United States.
Pretending Place- students help children with developmental problems in an interactive environment including a jungle, a construction site, a farm, a cookie factory, a space station.
Baking Pumpkin bread for the homeless- students bake loaves of bread near Thanksgiving to give to elderly shut-ins.
Miracle Mile- students collect money for St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee and then walk around the Marian Catholic Walking trail.
Frankfort Hunger Walk- students participate in the Frankfort Hunger Walk raising money for a food pantry.
Cancer Walk of Hope- students raise money and walk to end Cancer.
Get Creative- students make cards, candy, cookies for residents of nursing homes for holidays.
Game Night at the Park- students play board or card games with senior citizen residents of the Park.
Time Together- students go to Holland senior citizen residence to play games with the residents.
Friendly Festivities- students go to local grade school after school programs to bring holiday fun to the elementary students (new this year).
Mobile Elves- students go to the homes of the elderly to help them decorate for Christmas.
Tag days for Kiwanis, Seratoma, Lions club and whatever else comes along to raise money for these organizations.
Shamrocks for Mercy Home- student sell shamrock for Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
Make A Wish Foundation- students plan and organize a fund raiser for Make A Wish foundation.
Appalachia trip- two trips are offered for student to spend a week in the summer in Appalchia repairing roofs, rehabbing and building houses, landscaping.
