Marian Catholic fell behind 5-0 early, then allowed a seven-run inning on May 27, as the Spartans were bounced in the semifinals of the Brother Rice IHSA Class 4A Regional by the host Crusaders, 12-2.
Joey Walker was 2-for-3, collecting half the hits for Marian (8-28), while Byron Munoz drew two walks and scored a run.
Sophs: The Spartans prevailed over the Stars, 16-6, as Jeff Leppellere tripled and had four RBI, and winning pitcher Dan Jameson added two hits and two RBI.
Frosh: Marian (18-14) topped Lockport, 10-0, and Homewood-Flossmoor, 4-3 in eight innings, behind complete-game efforts from Mitch Weissenhofer (three-hitter) and Ben Santori (six striketouts). Santori, Johnny Rhode and Cameron Deadmon each had two hits in the first game and Santori and Joe Sherlock each rapped three hits vs. the Vikings.
