The summer of 2005 brought out the best in some new names and faces for Marian Baseball. Steve Lorenz was the "Best Pitcher," as the senior compiled the most innings and wins. Junior outfielder Mike Kozlowski was the "Best Hitter" and junior IF-OF-P Brandon House was the overall "Most Valuable Player."
Other newcomers Alan Maziur and T.J. Nolan were the Junior team players, while Dan Bartusiewicz and Nick Bozetti were the Senior representatives.
Sophomores to be who played extensively were C Brian Padove, IF Greg James, OF-P Jake Pozywia, P-1B Zack Roszak and OF Mark Scott. Coach Pat Higgins hopes they will be able to challenge for spots on thbe varsity.
The Junior Varsity team competed in the Southwest Colt League and was coached by Dave Payton.
Several improvements to the baseball facility were completed this summer, adding to the aesthetic beauty for Marian campers.
* A tool/storage shed was constructed in the first-base dugout.
* Benches were installed in the visitors dugout to allow for more storage. In addition, benches modeled after the St. Louis Cardinals' were assembled for the home team on the third-base side.
* A safety fence was constructed to keep the ball in play on the front edge of both dugouts.
* All of the fencing that surrounds the baseball field was painted black to match one of the Spartans' school colors.
Making the field conditions better should make the Spartan players very proud to play on their campus. |
