LW East spoils Spartans' thoughts of playoff advancement
Marian Catholic's Class 8A playoff visit to Lincoln-Way East on Friday night would come down to an extension of streaks.
With outstanding Spartan tailback Cliffton Gordon entering the contest with a string of 14 straight 100-yard rushing efforts, the Griffins limited the Marian standout to 81 yards.
Meanwhile, Lincoln-Way East took advantage of great field position early and limited the Spartans to 145 total yards to extend its winning streak to 25 games and advance to the 8A quarterfinals with a 46-6 victory.
Marian, which had won six of its last seven contests, concluded the year at 7-4. The Spartans fell to 24-16 in the IHSA playoffs, all under current head coach Dave Mattio.
While the Griffins (11-0 heading into a meeting with Bolingbrook) used starting field position of just across midfield on their first four possessions to bolt to a 29-0 lead, Marian never could get its offense rolling.
"All Cliffton ever needs is that little crease to make something happen, but we just didn't make that little crease tonight," Spartan Offensive Coordinator Ron Guagenti explained. "Their defensive line, in terms of size, quickness and pursuit, is as good as I've ever seen."
The Griffins' defensive front limited Marian to just more than 2 yards per carry on the ground (33 attempts, 71 yards), while the Spartan passing game netted just six completions and 74 yards.
Despite the difficult start, Marian had chances to regain momentum.
Late in the second quarter, the Spartans marched 77 yards in eight plays to pull within 29-6 at the half after quarterback Jack Krause hit tight end Dennis Kelly with a 12-yard scoring toss.
Back to Marian form, the Spartans were very efficient on the drive. An offensive line of the likes of Jon Jack, Ben McDonnell, Jeremy Hess, Rudy Rinas, Richard Wilson and Kelly opened space for a 42-yard Gordon jaunt inside the red zone. As the Lincoln-Way East defense stiffened, Marian came up with the scoring play on fourth down.
Statistically, Marian was outgained by fewer than 200 yards, but the Griffins made sure Spartan opportunities would be far and few between.
Marian appeared to get a big break midway through the third quarter, as Corey White returned an interception 8 yards to the Griffin 34-yard line. However, a tenacious Lincoln-Way East defense turned the next four Marian snaps into a pair of rushes for losses, an incomplete pass, and finally a sack on fourth down.
The setback concludes some outstanding careers for Marian players, particularly the ESCC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
Gordon finished the campaign with 23 touchdowns and 1,958 rushing yards, the second best single-season total in school history. His 3,274 career yards also place him second on the charts to Terrence Marable, who led Marian to the 1993 Class 4A state crown.
"In all the years I've coached, I've never seen a back hit the hole with so much authority," Guagenti assessed. "For a kid who's only about 195 pounds, he's just so explosive. Cliffton is a great back and has had a great career.
"I'm very surprised he's not had more people look at him to play on the next level. He's an excellent blocker, he can run with the best, he's a great receiver and he can make plays."
The Spartans will also miss ESCC co-Defensive Player of the Year Josh Howe. Along with his play at linebacker, Howe often punted Marian out of trouble and didn't have a punt blocked all season.
"He's done everything we've asked of him this year," Marian Defensive Coordinator Tim Swanson praised. "He's put people on his shoulders all year and he's carried us through adversity a number of times. He has a stronger will out there than anyone with which I've been associated."
Howe had one of Marian's three sacks on the night, while leading a defense that limited the Griffins to three first downs after halftime.
However, Lincoln-Way East used a 30-yard field goal and a defensive score to expand its lead to 39-6, then held off Marian's last strong offensive thrust.
The Spartans entered the red zone one more time, courtesy of Krause's 33-yard connection to Julian Williams and three Gordon totes that moved the ball to the Griffin 13. However, Lincoln-Way East responded again, this time coming up with a big sack on fourth down.
For the night, Marian managed just six first downs, all of them coming on two drives.

Spartan defense keys 8A playoff win over H-F in overtime
Countless times, the Marian Catholic defense came up with huge plays when the Spartans hosted rival Homewood-Flossmoor in a Class 8A playoff game on Friday.
However, the Spartan defense had one more left in it in overtime.
After the Marian defense forced a fumble and subsequent Jared White recovery, Spartan superstar tailback Cliffton Gordon rambled 7 yards for his third touchdown to give Marian a 20-14 overtime victory.
The verdict avenged a 42-28 season-opening loss to the Vikings (6-4) and sends Marian (7-3) into a second round contest against top-seeded Lincoln-Way East (10-0) in Frankfort.
A Marian defense that allowed just 150 yards in more than four quarters chased H-F quarterback Mark Wade all over the field on Friday. But twins Corey and Jared White came up with the biggest plays of the night.
With Marian trailing 14-6 early in the fourth quarter, Corey White's second sack of the night resulted in a 13-yard loss and safety to pull Marian within 14-8.
Then in overtime, Marian stuffed Wade 2 yards from the end zone and Jared White came up with the ensuing fumble to end H-F's night on offense.
"Everyone just started yelling 'ball, ball,' and I finally found it and jumped for it," Jared White explained after the Marian faithful stormed a muddy Spartan Stadium field. "The ball just ended up in my hands.
"I just love my team. Last year we were 2-7 and now we're in the second round of the playoffs. That says a lot about our character and our heart."
After forcing the first turnover of the contest on the sloppy surface, Marian needed just two plays to begin the celebration.
Using the IHSA overtime policy of four downs from the 10 for each team, Marian advanced to the H-F 7-yard line on a bootleg by quarterback Jack Krause. Next, Gordon burst through the left side for Marian's first overtime playoff victory since a 14-13 decision over Sandburg 20 years ago.
For the 10th time this season, Gordon eclipsed the 100-yard mark by toting 38 times for 154 yards and touchdown runs of 1, 3 and 7 yards.
But the defense was the story on this night against an H-F team that had scored six touchdowns in the season opener.
H-F managed just more than a yard per carry with 44 yards on 31 rushing attempts, as a Spartan front of Eliott Echols, Paul Zarlengo, Matt Golubski, Josh Forney, Jack McCormick, Jon Jack and Richard Wilson stuffed the Viking running game. While the H-F passing game netted 106 yards, it came with just six completions for the night.
On seven occasions, Marian halted H-F's running game for negative yardage, including five big sacks from Corey White (two), Golubski, Zarlengo and Hugh Reynolds (on a punt attempt). Meanwhile, H-F had several dropped passes, perhaps because of some huge hits by captain and linebacker Josh Howe, and a secondary of Matt Dee, Andres Rodriguez, Kevin Kammert and the White twins in coverage.
Marian fell behind early in the season-opening contest, but set a different tone on Friday. After the Spartan defense forced a punt on the opening possession, Marian went 68 yards in six plays to take a 6-0 lead. Nnanna Alozie (nine rushes, 83 yards) keyed the drive wtih a 48-yard burst and Gordon finished it off by following Jon Jack and Rudy Rinas into the end zone from a yard out.
H-F salvaged a 7-6 halftime lead with a 51-yard scoring play. Then the Vikings took advantage of a 43-yard punt return to go just 12 yards for a 14-6 command on their opening possession of the second half. The scoring play would be one of only two first downs H-F got in the second half.
With time beginning to favor the Vikings, Marian failed in the red zone- but the defense quickly swayed the momentum.
Back-to-back sacks eventually resulted in the safety, then Mark Scott returned the kickoff 21 yards to the H-F 46. Gordon carried nine consecutive times before bursting into the end zone from 3 yards away for the tying score.
H-F had three more possessions in regulation, but with Marian chasing Wade all over the field, the Vikings managed just 21 total yards in the second half.
"We got him out of the pocket and scrambling a lot," Jared White said. "We tracked him down all over the field and he wasn't able to get off a lot of those long passes."
The Spartans will play a second-round playoff contest for the first time since 2000.

Spartans rip St. Patrick behind Gordon's record 307 yards
Marian Catholic made a commitment to smashmouth football Friday night with the Spartans hosting St. Patrick for the final regular-season game of the season.
St. Patrick made a commitment to playing spoiler for the playoff-bound Spartans.
Both accomplished their goals early, including the St. Patrick jumping to a 14-0 first-quarter lead.
Then senior running back Cliffton Gordon began to take matters into his own hands (and feet). Starting with a 1-yard run to get Marian on the board and finishing with a 46-yard burst to cap the scoring, Gordon exploded for a school-record 307 rushing yards and four scores in leading Marian to a 40-21 ESCC victory.
"He's just a great worker," praised offensive lineman Jon Jack, who led a group that helped open holes for 380 worth of rushing yards on the night. "He just knows how to take it at you and his cutbacks were great tonight. We told him he was going to beat the record before he left here, and he did it tonight."
Now, Marian (6-3) will await for its first Class 8A playoff assignment when the IHSA pairings are announced on Saturday night.
The Spartans, who watched their sophomores claim a share of the ESCC crown with a 14-7 win Friday, will take a three-game winning streak into their first playoff visit since 2003.
Once Marian got things going on Friday, there was little doubt about the outcome. The Spartans answered the early deficit with a punishing 16-play, 65-yard scoring drive as Gordon toted 14 times before bursting into the end zone from a yard out. Dennis Kelly booted the first of four conversion kicks to pull Marian within 14-7.
As it did on three occasions, the Spartan defense set up the next score. Marian's Andres Rodriguez pounced on a Shamrock fumble with the visitors driving at the Spartan 12. One play and 88 yards later, Gordon ripped down the right sideline to pull Marian even at 14-14 with 2:18 to play in the opening half.
Gordon was Marian's lone ballcarrier before halftime, rushing 21 times for 185 yards.
"Last year at a basketball game, they (St. Patrick) shouted 'let's play football,' after they had beaten us in football," Jack explained. "We took that as a challenge. We just came out to play football tonight. We came out a little sluggish, but then we flipped on the switch."
The Spartans kept the momentum rolling in the second half, going 59 yards the first time they had the ball on a drive capped off by Gordon's 5-yard TD run. An interception set up Marian's next score, as the Spartans needed to travel just 34 for a score when Jack Krause hit Mark Scott on a 17-yard touchdown toss for a 28-14 command.
Next, the Spartan defense got into the act, as defensive back Matt Dee picked off a pass and raced 52 yards for the score that gave Marian a 34-14 cushion.
With Marian stuffing the Shamrocks' running game for less that 4 yards an attempt, the Spartan secondary was able to capitalize on opportunities.
Rodriguez finished with two pickoffs to go with the fumble recovery and Dee added his interception. The likes of Kevin Kammert, Derrick Middleton, Jared White and Dan Roque were also able to disrupt the St. Patrick passing game because of good pressure up front from Paul Zarlengo, Josh Forney, Elliott Echols, Matt Golubski and Corey White.
With the four turnovers forced, Marian improved its season ratio to 25-9.
The teams just traded late scores for the final result, but the last score of the night proved to be the record-breaker. Looking to run out the clock with a 34-21 command, Gordon (35 carries) exploded through a hole near midfield and scampered 46 yards into the record books.
Along with Jack, Gordon can thank the likes of offensive linemen Kelly, Ben McDonnell, Rudy Rinas, Richard Wilson and Jeremy Hess for their hand in breaking a record that has stood since 1969 (Rick Klupchak's 274 yards vs. St. Francis de Sales). Marian also churned out drives that consumed 7:17 and 8:18 in time of possession.
For the season, Gordon has rushed for 1,723 yards and his career total was boosted to 3,039 yards- the fourth highest total in history.
Records aside, Marian's priority now will go toward extending the season.
"We've got a lot more football to play," said Jack, who also recovered a fumble. "We need to focus in practice, go hard-nosed out here and prepare to play five more weeks of football."

Spartans bounce Benet to secure IHSA playoff berth
"We didn't want to have to come back next week and get that fifth win," Marian senior running back Cliffton Gordon said after the Spartans' ESCC visit to Benet Academy on Friday.
The Spartans certainly didn't play like they had any interest in keeping a fifth victory and virtual playoff berth on hold any longer.
With Gordon leading the charge- 38 carries for 257 yards- Marian Catholic improved to 5-3 (4-2 ESCC) with a 34-13 victory over the Redwings. A win next Friday over St. Patrick in the Spartans' final regular-season home game would send Marian into its first playoff contest since 2003 with a 6-3 mark.
"This was huge," Gordon said. "The fifth win should get us in the playoffs and now we can focus on getting a sixth win and getting ready for the playoffs. This was huge for our program."
Benet (4-4) actually drew first blood on the turf at Benedictine University, taking advantage of a Marian turnover for a quick 7-0 command. However, Marian quickly proved that the visitors would set the tempo on this contest.
The Spartans scored on three of their first four possession and added a score in the two-minute drill to take a 28-7 lead into intermission.
Marian dominated most facets, as the Spartans ran 19 more plays (63-44) than the Redwings. The ball possession dominance (30:38 to 17:24) netted Marian a 341-48 advantage on the ground. Other than two scoring plays to Redwing receiver Tom Elsner for 112 yards, Benet produced only 123 more yards against a stingy Spartan defensive unit.
The Spartans answered Benet's first score with a 67-yard drive in seven plays, culminated by Gordon's 1-yard scoring plunge. The next time Marian touched the ball, the visitors took just two plays to score as Derrick Middleton scampered 54 yards for a 12-7 lead.
A fumble stopped Marian on its next chance, but the Spartans then came up with their second seven-play, 67-yard drive as Gordon capped it off with a 10-yard run.
Benet gave Marian one more chance 59 yards away before the half. Boosted by a pass interference call, the Spartans finished off a six-play drive when Nnanna Alozie rambled 25 yards for the score. Quarterback Jack Krause hit Alozie for the conversion and a 28-7 halftime command.
By halftime, Gordon had amassed 145 yards for his 11th consecutive 100-yard game, as the offensive front of Jon Jack, Richard Wilson, Rudy Rinas, Marc Bartolini, Brandon Banks and Dennis Kelly opened huge holes.
"The offense came out strong tonight," assessed Gordon, who improved his rushing total for the year to 1,416 yards with 16 touchdowns. "We were able to pick up yards all night. Once I got through the line of scrimmage, I was able to break a lot of tackles. The guys did a great job up front all night."
While Marian racked up points and yardage, the Spartans never allowed Benet to establish a ground game. Sparked by a linebacking corps of Josh Howe, Jack McCormick, Corey and Jared White, the Spartans forced six punts and limited the Redwings to 2.1 yards per carry on the ground.
Marian also got an interception from Matt Dee, fumble recoveries from Corey White, Matt Golubski and Elliott Echols, along with a sack from Hugh Reynolds.
Benet did manage a long pass play for its second score in the third quarter, but Marian added the clincher midway through the fourth period when Gordon dashed 18 yards for his third score. Krause completed his ninth pass just before the score to complete an efficient 9-of-11 night for 66 yards. Julian Williams proved to be his favorite target with four catches for 38 yards.

Spartans come back for Homecoming win over Marist
There couldn't have been a more perfect way to seal Marian Catholic's Homecoming victory over Marist on Friday night.
Whether it was pressuring the quarterback, making a tackle for loss or coming up with a game-breaking play, Spartan defenders Paul Zarlengo and Josh Howe were at the forefront of the action all night.
One series after Cliffton Gordon had dashed 39 yards to give Marian a 12-7 lead late in the fourth quarter, the RedHawks had one more shot with 1:08 to play from their own 23-yard line.
That's until Zarlengo rushed the Marist quarterback into a hurried throw. Howe found himself on the other end of the errant aerial, as Marian pleased a boisterous Homecoming crowd with the finishing touches on a 12-7 comeback victory.
The win improves Marian to 4-3 overall and one victory away from its first playoff berth since 2003. The Spartans are also 3-2 in the ESCC with contests remaining against Benet and St. Patrick.
"We were attacking the ball well all game," assessed Zarlengo, who also set up Marian's first score with a blocked punt. "I swam on that last play and just got right in there.
"This is just huge tonight. It's the big stride we needed toward making the playoffs."
Marian got its usual strong performance from Gordon (174 yards), who eclipsed the 1,100-yard barrier and ran for 100 or more yards in his 10th straight game. However, the Spartans were still facing a 7-6 deficit after gaining no first downs in the third quarter and squandering a 6-0 halftime lead.
On a night that Marian unveiled its Courage to Lead Capital Campaign, it was a turn for the defense and special teams to lead after the offense had put up big numbers all season.
Marist had taken the 7-6 lead with an 88-yard march on its first possession of the second half. But the RedHawks' next three possessions resulted in an interception by Kevin Kammert and two punts.
The Marian secondary had a strong night, as the likes of Kammert, Matt Dee, Andres Rodriguez and Jared White limited the Marist passing game to 8-for-23 for 118 yards.
The last punt was preceded by Howe's punt that pinned in Marist at its own 6-yard line. Four plays later, Marian took advantage of good field position.
Taking control on the RedHawk 42, Gordon went off tackle for 3 yards. He appeared halted behind the line on the next play, then exploded out of the pack to scamper 39 yards for the lead score.
Marist (2-5, 1-4) had two more shots, both resulting in turnovers. After a flea-flicker got the RedHawks to the Marian 24, Howe pounced on a Marist fumble. Then after Howe uncorked a 39-yard punt, one play later he teamed up with Zarlengo on the clinching play.
Marian had moved the ball fairly well in the opening half, but couldn't register the game's first score until Zarlengo ignited things on special teams. With Marist punting from its own 15-yard line, Zarlengo stormed through to block the punt and White's recovery set up the hosts at the RedHawk 7-yard line.
After Gordon exploded for 6 yards, quarterback Jack Krause sneaked the final yard for a 6-0 lead. Extending its string to four straight quarters, the defense did the rest in sending the Spartans into the intermission with the 6-0 edge.
"We're definitely rolling on defense now and we're definitely working as a team," Zarlengo said. "That was lacking in the first few games of the season and we didn't have faith in one another. Now, were starting to play like one big family."
The Spartan defense yielded just 233 total yards, 1 more yard than Marian gained on the ground alone. Marian also forced six punts and a missed field goal to go with the three turnovers.

Marian's Paul Zarlengo prepares to rush the passer Friday night during the visiting Spartans' 21-14 ESCC setback at Joliet Catholic Academy. |

Opportunities fade in narrow Marian loss to JCA
Marian Catholic had most of the necessary ingredients for an upset Friday when it visited Joliet Catholic for an East Suburban Catholic Conference test.
The Spartans hogged time of possession with an effective ball-control offense that churned out 65 plays for the night.
And the Marian defense turned in what might be its best effort of the season, certainly the best in four weeks.
What Marian didn't have on Friday was the ability to cash in when opportunities presented themselves.
The
Spartans came away empty on two early red-zone opportunities, failed to keep the Hilltoppers in the shadow of their goal posts both times, and didn't cash in on the only two turnovers of the contest.
All of that added up to Joliet Catholic escaping with a 21-14 victory to improve to 4-0 in the ESCC and to send the Spartans home at 3-3, 2-2.
"We talked all week about trying to come in and be error-free," junior lineman Dominick Corsiglia said. "They were the ones that made the errors and we just didn't take advantage of opportunities."
Playing with an extremely painful groin injury that had him doubtful 24 hours earlier, Corsiglia gave the Spartans a gasp of life when he pounced on a JCA fumble at the Hilltopper 47-yard line with 5:11 to play.
However, a Marian offense that had gained at least one first down on all of its seven previous possessions managed just 3 yards in four plays. After an incomplete pass on fourth-and-7, the host squad never allowed Marian to see the football again.
As JCA ran out the clock, Marian was unable to complete a comeback from a 21-0 deficit, falling by the same score as in its last visit to Memorial Stadium in 2004.
Marian's defense pitched a shutout in the second half, but after trailing 21-6 at the half, the Spartans managed only a 7-yard touchdown run from Nnanna Alozie (Cliffton Gordon conversion run) in their comeback bid.
"The defense was great in the second half with zero points allowed," Corsiglia assessed. "They have been blowing out teams (JCA scored 144 points in winning its first three ESCC games) and we held them. I just knew we were not going to lose after the fumble recovery. I had a feeling the offense would come down and score and it would be our game."
With as well as Marian controlled field possession in the first half, the Spartans deserved a much better fate than the 21-0 deficit it faced late in the second quarter.
Despite a pair of first downs on its opening possession, Marian was eventually forced to punt. However, the ball was mishandled and Rudy Rinas pounced on the fumble at the JCA 40-yard line. Gordon (30 carries, 145 yards) and Alozie both contributed 9-yard carries, as Marian moved to the JCA 15 before turning the ball over on downs.
The Hilltoppers answered with their first of three long scoring runs, a 54-yarder that gave JCA a 7-0 command.
Marian responded by marching from its own 29, again to the Hilltopper 15 before eventually yielding the ball on downs.
This time, JCA quarterback John Reuttiger reeled off a 76-yard run for a 14-0 command. After a short Marian punt, the Hilltoppers made it three possessions and three scores with a 32-yard run for a 21-0 count.
Marian stuck to its ball-control plan, marching 65 yards in 11 plays. An offensive line of Jonathan Jack, Richard Wilson, Rinas, Ben McDonnell, Brandon Banks and Dennis Kelly continued to open holes until Gordon finally burst into the end zone from 4 yards out.
Yet, despite running 45 plays to the Hilltoppers' 16 in the opening half, the visitors were still faced with a 21-6 halftime climb.
Climb Marian did in the third quarter. After forcing a quick three-and-out, Marian needed just seven plays to travel 58 yards. The Alozie score and Gordon conversion pulled the Spartans within 21-14 with more than 18 minutes to play.
However, JCA used some of its own ball-control recipe to ensure that Marian would see the football only two more times.
Alozie finished with a strong effort on the ground as well, carrying 13 times for 73 yards. Both squads' passing games were a virtual non-factor, as the Spartans gained 31 yards through the air and the Hilltoppers just 28.
"We just have to take all the good from the offense tonight and the defense in the second half and move ahead," concluded Corsiglia, who will help lead his squad in a Homecoming battle with Marist next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
"We just have to take all the good emotion and drive, and carry it into next week. I have a good feeling we're going to bounce right back. We still have confidence we can run the table."

Spartans stun previously unbeaten St. Viator in shootout
Marian Catholic's explosive offense was true to form on Friday night when the Spartans hosted unbeaten St. Viator. Marian Catholic's much-maligned defense came up with some huge plays at critical times on Friday.
As a team, Marian Catholic displayed resiliency on Friday after the Spartans allowed the Lions to come back from a 21-0 deficit.
But, in the end, Marian used a clutch interception from Matt Dee, some big play from captain Josh Howe and another 200-yard rushing effort from Cliffton Gordon to pull off a 36-34 ESCC upset of the Lions.
Marian (3-2) will now have playoff thoughts on its mind when the Spartans visit rival Joliet Catholic on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Friday's victory didn't come easily, however.
With Marian holding a slim 29-27 lead late in the fourth quarter,
defensive back Matt Dee picked off a pass and returned it to the St. Viator 15-yard line. One play later, Gordon burst around left end for a 15-yard score. Jeremy Mattio's conversion kick gave the Spartans a 36-27 command with 2:19 to play.
Still not East Street.
St. Viator took just more than a minute to travel 65 yards to pull within 36-34 with 1:09 to play.
Then it was Jared White's turn to come up big, as he sustained major pressure to fall on an onside kick.
It still wasn't over.
Against an 11-man rush, Howe managed to get off a key punt to pin in the Lions at their 12-yard line with 12 seconds to play.
Two plays later, Paul Zarlengo sacked St. Viator quarterback Dante Warren (338 passing yards) and it was finally over.
"I just wanted to kick and get it off," explained Howe, who came up with a few solid punts and added an interception of his own. "It was pressure, but it was a good snap, good blocking and we got the punt off.
"This feels great. We came out and played hard. We practiced well this week and we finally came out and executed. It's about time."
Facing a 4-0 squad after a lightning delay, Marian came out with no fear. The Spartans scored on three of their four first-half to take a 21-0 command.
With a strong mix of run and pass, Marian scored first-half touchdowns on a 21-yard pass from Jack Krause to Julian Williams, a 5-yard run by Gordon and Krause's 17-yard scoring aerial for an acrobatic catch by Derrick Middleton. The first-half jump also received a jolt with Howe's interception and a fumble recovery by Kevin Kammert.
St. Viator salvaged a 21-7 halftime deficit on the final play of the first half. Then the Lions scored on two of their first three second-half possessions to knot the contest at 21-21.
"It was a little nerve-wracking," Howe said of the Lion comeback. "The offense has been putting up points all year and we needed to step up on defense. It was nerve-wracking, but we stuck with it, showed a little heart and came out of it."
Marian's offense helped stem the tide. After St. Viator's tying score, the Spartans marched 78 yards in 11 plays to take the lead for good. Gordon culminated the drive with a 4-yard plunge, and after Gordon added the conversion run, Marian owned a 29-21 lead.
That left matters to the late-game heroics.
Gordon finished with
201 yards on 30 carries for his second straight 200-yard effort and fifth 100-yard game of the year. Krause finished with 135 passing yards, as Middleton pulled in three passes for 64 yards.
