Spartans (11-17) just miss             Marian's Chris Haskin prepares to fire a three-pointer
regional shocker at #1 H-F
on Feb. 29 in regional competition at H.-Flossmoor.

Marian Catholic was a three-pointer at the buzzer away from stunning the state's top-ranked team Tuesday, as H-F escaped a Class 4A regional semifinal in its own gym over the resilient Spartans, 55-53.
The Spartans (11-17) led for much of the contest, as the #16 seed in the Bloom Sectional pushed the Vikings (26-1) to the limit.
Brandon Sherman tallied 14 points and had four assists to lead Marian, while Dennis Kelly notched 12 points and eight rebounds. Danny Panici hit some huge threes to finish with 11 points.
The Spartans were outscored at the foul line, 14-4, as Marian did not shoot a free throw in the second half. Al Williams dished out six assists and Grayson Mitchell pulled down five rebounds.
In the Three-Point Competition, Chris Haskin hit eight of 15 to advance to Friday's regional final round.

The Marian sophomores (20-9) were edged out by Rich Central, 65-61, in the semifinals of the Rich East Tournament, despite 18 points from DiAndre Bellamy and 15 from Dominic Jackson.
The Spartan Frosh A fell to St. Ignatius, 57-51.
