Spartans (10-7) stumble with miscues early,
fall to host Wildcats in Thornton Shootout

   JAN. 15: Visiting Marian Catholic dug an early 22-10 hole with six first-quarter turnovers, and the Spartans were never able to dig out in a 73-50 pasting at the Thornton Shootout on Sunday.

The Spartans (10-7) wasted a career-high 17 points from Malik Tidwell, who tallied 14 of his points in the third quarter. Chase Adams was the only other Spartan in double figures with 11 points.

Warren Allen chipped in eight points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists for Marian, which was just 9-for-19 from the foul line. TeeAaron Powell added six points.

The Spartans played Thornton (12-4) tough in the middle quarters, but never got closer than eight points. The Wildcats poured on 24 points in the final stanza to turn the contest into a blowout.

Sophs: The Spartans (11-4) dropped a 49-46 decision to Marist.

Frosh: Marian's A Squad notched a three-point victory over Mount Carmel, 60-57, while the B Team edged the Caravan, 40-39.
