Spartan John Oliver defends on March 18 during a 65-60 supersectional overtime loss to Edwardsville at ISU.

NORMAL- Marian Catholic got beat at its own game on Tuesday. Normally gaining a big advantage at the foul line, the Spartans were outscored, 29-12, at the charity stripe in a 65-60 overtime loss to Edwardsville in an IHSA Elite 8 battle at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena.

Edwardsville (30-2) ended the year for Marian (28-3) for a second straight year in a contest that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.

Terrone Parham paced Marian, which had won 13 straight, with a career-high 30 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Tyler Ulis completed a record-shattering career with 23 points and four assists. The remainder of the Spartans netted just seven points.

John Oliver also ripped down seven rebounds, as Marian gained a 16-4 advantage in second-chance points. However, Oliver was one of three Spartan starters to foul out. Marian finished with four more field goals, but Edwardsville was 15-for-17 from the foul line in overtime en route to an overall 29 of 38 at the stripe. Marian was just 12-for-13 at the line.

Edwardsville shot 55 percent from the field in the contest, while Marian was 21 of 56 (38 percent).

The loss concludes a brilliant 57-7 two-year run for five starters that comprised the best lineup in history, including Ulis, Parham, Oliver, Ki-Jana Crawford and Josh Cohn.

Tyler Ulis named one of only 24 McDonald's All-Americans.
