Marian (23-6) thwarted by late Marist free throws in sectional finals

Marian Catholic rallied from a seven-point fourth quarter deficit to forge a tie, but Marist used a pair of late free throws on Feb. 21 to escape with a 43-41 decision in the championship game of the Andrew Sectional.
Junior Kaila Turner paced a balanced Spartan attack with 13 points, while adding four steals. Simone Law and Alysha Ferry added 11 points, the latter also ripping down nine rebounds to go with three assists and four steals.
The Spartans (23-6) were outscored, 12-2, at the foul line by Marist, which went on to defeat Edwardsville to earn a berth in the Class 4A Final Four.
