IHSA STATE: Marian posted an 81-over-par 657 to finish 2nd in this weekend's IHSA state tournament in Makanda.
Marian's tournament scorers included Sammi Sloan (155, 11th place), Meg Gilley and Lindsey Haines (165, 41st place), and Lauren Pascarella (176, 76th place).
Winning a tie-breaker with its fifth score, Marian earned its first-ever berth to the IHSA state tournament by winning the Neuqua Valley Sectional on Monday.
The Spartans tied Fenwick at 325 behind Sammi Sloan (38-37/75), Meg Gilley (80), Lindsey Haines (83) and Ann Vrdolyak (87). Both Lauren Pascarella (88) and Jill Nicholas (89, 39 on back nine) would have provided the tie-breaking winner over Fenwick's next golfer.
Sloan score was three-over-par at Naperbrook Golf Course, where Lyons earned the third qualifying spot.
The state meet will run Friday and Saturday at Stone Creek Golf Course in Makanda (Carbondale area).
