Marian wins the 3A IHSA state title on Nov. 12 at ISU.

Spartans (32-9) top ESCC foe Marian Central
to win IHSA 3A state championship at ISU

NORMAL- Marian Central got the ESCC title this year, but Marian Catholic got the biggest prize, as the Spartans toppled the ESCC foe Hurricanes, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22 on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena to win the IHSA Class 3A state championship for Marian's fourth team sports state crown. The Spartans conclude the year with a 32-9 mark, while handing MCC just its second setback in 42 matches.

Temi Thomas powered home 18 kills with nine digs to lead Marian Catholic, which also got six kills from Ashley Sledge and five from Lauren Hatch. Jordan Piekarski dished out 18 assists and Rachel Churilla notched 12 digs. Temilade Adekoya finished with seven assists and five digs.

The Spartans have now won four team IHSA titles, including 1993 football, 2012 baseball and 2013 girls basketball, with all but baseball occurring at Illinois State University.

Sophs: The Spartans fell to Providence, 25-21, 25-17.
Frosh: Marian's A Squad dropped a 25-19, 25-11 decision to Providence, while the B Team topped the Celtics, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21.
