Marian Captures 3rd Overall at Super Regionals

RegionalsThis weekend the Marian Catholic Marching Band competed in the Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional. A total of 65 bands competed this weekend from all over the midwest including 16 Illinois marching bands. The band competed in a preliminary competition on Saturday morning and was named class 2A Champions including awards for best music, best visual, and best general effect. In addition to winning their class, the band earned a spot along with 14 other bands in the night time finals performance where they placed 3rd overall.

The band now has three weeks to perfect their show before the Grand National Championships the weekend of November 14. That weekend, the band will compete against the best marching bands in the country.

The band’s show this year is entitled Rapture of the Deep. The show tells the story of deep sea divers who get to the bottom of the ocean and meet strange creatures who eventually help them reach the surface again. The show features the music of Nigel Clarke, John Mackey, and Michael Giacchino. British composer Nigel Clarke has expressed his excitement that the Marian Band is performing his piece Earthrise in their show. He has been actively following the bands progress this season through social media and congratulated the band on their state championship through his personal Facebook page.

earns sixth Grand Championship in row (14th overall)

BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis next target


The Marian Catholic Band took home its 35th State Championship in class on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in Hancock Stadium at Illinois State University. The band has won its sixth consecutive overall state title. Marian Catholic won 3A class in prelims, placing first in Music Performance, Effect and Visuals, and went on to finals where it finished in first place among the field of 35 bands.

 

The next big challenge the Marian Catholic Marching Band is preparing for is the Bands of America Grand Nationals on Nov. 13-16, 2014. There will be 92 bands from across the United States in Indianapolis vying for a spot in the top 12 and a chance at the overall Championship.

 

The Marian Catholic Band program has a reputation as one of the most outstanding marching bands in the United States. Over the past 20 years the bands have earned hundreds of awards and honors. The Marian Catholic Band’s educational and leadership philosophies have been used as models for band programs in nearly every state of the union.
