1995 Concert Season

1995 Concert BandThe concert season at Marian is of great importance to us. We consider it our "bread and butter". We feel that there should be a good balance between marching and concert season, instead of a preference for one or the other. We have three concert bands at Marian Catholic, based on experience and age. The Symphonic Band is the most advanced group, playing literature representing the Grade 6 level of difficulty. The Concert Band is the next level group, playing literature representing the Grades 4, 5, and 6 level of difficulty. The Cadet Band is made up of all freshmen in the Marian band program. While all freshmen have the opportunity to audition for one of the upper level groups, they must also play in the Cadet Band as well. We feel it is essential that they develop friendship and identity by staying together their first year here at Marian.

Here is a list of some of the literature we did that year in each band:

Symphonic Band:

  • Earle of Oxford's Marche from "William Byrd Suite" - Gordon Jacob
  • Pampeana no. 3 - Alberto Ginastera/Bimm
  • Tears - David Maslanka
  • Dance Rhythms op.58b Wallingford Riegger
  • Daybreak & General Dance from "Daphnes & Chloe Suite no. 2" - Maurice Ravel/Hindsley
  • Amazing Grace - Frank Ticheli
  • Fairest of the Fair - John Philip Sousa
  • Dance of the Comedians - Bedrich Smetana/Foster

Concert Band:

  • Pas Redoubles - Camille Säint-Säens/Frackenpohl
  • Danse Celestial - Robert Sheldon
  • Variations on an Appalachian Lullaby - Charles "Chip"Lewis
  • Nimrod from "Enigma Variations" - Edward Elgar/Alfred Reed
  • Freckles Rag - Larry Buck/Randy Eyles

Cadet Band:

  • March-Seventeen Come Sunday from "Folk Song Suite" - Ralph Vaughan Williams
  • Appalachian Overture - James Barnes
  • The Magic of Mozart - Mozart/Ed Huckeby
  • Chant and Jubilo - Francis McBeth
