The concert season at Marian is of great importance to us. We consider it our "bread and butter". We feel that there should be a good balance between marching and concert season, instead of a preference for one or the other.
We have three concert bands at Marian Catholic, based on experience and age. The Symphonic Band is the most advanced group, playing literature representing the Grade 6 level of difficulty. The Concert Band is the next level group, playing literature representing the Grades 4, 5, and 6 level of difficulty. The Cadet Band is made up of all freshmen in the Marian band program. While all freshmen have the opportunity to audition for one of the upper level groups, they must also play in the Cadet Band as well. We feel it is essential that they develop friendship and identity by staying together their first year here at Marian.
Here is a list of some of the literature we are performing/reading this season in each band:
Symphonic Band: Tam O'Shanter - Malcolm Arnold/Paynter Country Gardens - Percy Grainger Ghost Train - Eric Whittacre Rhapsody in Blue - George Gershwin Zion - Dan Welcher Symphony no. 2 - John Barnes Chance First Suite in Eb - Gustav Holst William Byrd Suite - Gordan Jacob The Last Spring - Edvard Grieg/Curnow
