This year Marian Catholic High School took a giant leap towards strengthening it's percussion program. The Percussion Ensemble held its first ever concert in front of a packed crowd in the school's auditorium. The ensemble performed music that provided them with a different style than the music they perform in the marching and concert bands. The music they performed was challenging, and yet extremely entertaining. The ensembles were open to all percussionists at Marian, providing the students (grades 9-12) with a great opportunity to grow musically.
The percussion ensemble concert consisted of the following music:
- "Bayport Sketch" by Jared Spears"
- Overture for Percussion Ensemble" by John Beck
- "Ragtime Robin" by Green/Becker
- "The Simpsonīs" arranged by Frank Oddis
- "Geometrics"
The concert was full of excitement and performed with great energy. All of the ensembles did a very good job, especially with the short amount of time that they actually practiced together. The concert was a great success! There is no doubt that the experience will help pave the way for many more successful percussion events at Marian. In 1999, the percussion ensemble will explore even more realms of performance. |
