Many colleges and universities open their campuses to high school students during the summer months for special programs. Some of the courses are "for credit," others for enrichment.
Attending a summer course, workshop, or seminar can:
- Provide national (or even International) exposure
- Assist in choosing a college major
- Assist the search for universities matching the student
- Provide the opportunity to develop personal gifts and talents
- Add to the resume of those students who seek admission to highly selective colleges.
Students are strongly encouraged to consider attending a summer program. If you are interested in finding out if a college or university offers a summer program, consult the college's web site or contact the college directly to find out if they offer any type of programs. Information and applications usually start to arrive in February; be sure to note the deadline as many of these are "first come" programs.
