Marian helps provide relief Always known for its generosity for less fortunate individuals, the Marian Catholic students and community have put together several efforts to help provide relief to the Gulf States and victims of Hurricane Katrina.
MC, SPONSOR SEND STUDENTS TO DANCE
The Marian Student Council and some parents reached out to area business to solicit help in sending new Gulf States Marian students to the Homecoming dance. Business that pitched in include Homewood Florist, Lincoln Mall (shoes), Just Relaxed Salon and the Dan Griffin Family (photos).
MARIAN ACCEPTS KATRINA STUDENTS
As of Sept. 7, Marian has accepted five evacuated students from the New Orleans area, from a variety of Catholic and public schools. Some students are also being assisted with tuition relief from the Sr. Simeon Emergency Tuition Fund.
SERVICE CLUB COLLECTS ITEMS The Marian Service Club is collecting items needed for South Suburban PADS to assist victims. Items included: Clothing: new T-Shirts, underwear, new white socks, new sweatpants, flip-flops, shower clogs. Hygiene products: spray deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth wash, new hairbrushes and combs, lotion, Vaseline, razors, shaving cream, diapers, sanitary pads, infant care products. Miscellaneous: new bed sheets, pillow cases, new bath towels, wash cloths, twin comforters and quilts, new pillows, baby food, cribs, playpens, high chairs, car seats, hairdryers, books and magazines, games, toys. Donations should be brought to the main office and check donations should be written to South Suburban PADS.
MARIAN SUPPORTS NCEA´S "CHILD TO CHILD" Marian has sent $3,000 in donations to the National Catholic Education Association´s "Child to Child" campaign to support school rebuilding efforts, requesting a special focus on Dominican Schools who have been impacted.
SERVICE CLUB COOKS, SERVES MEALS
Marian students will help prepare and serve meals for evacuees currently living at the Mental Health Center facility in Tinley Park.
STUDENTS, FACULTY DONATE WATER
Marian students and faculty spent a day of lunch periods collecting funds and bottles of water (15,000). With cooperation from Sodexho and Pepsi, water and funds were sent to hurricanes victims in the Gulf States. |
