Dominican Charism

The Dominican Family Under Mary's Mantle

The Dominican Family Under Mary's Mantle by Thoma Swanson, OP

The history of the Catholic Church is filled with stories of countless people who devoted their lives to God. Some of these holy men and women inspired followers who wanted to model their examples. The result was the foundation of various religious orders, each with a unique spiritual gift, or charism, that they would use to fulfill the mission of the Church.

At the start of the 13th century, a Spanish priest named Dominic recognized a need for Truth against great heresy. His powerful preaching proved to be an effective means to bring people back to the faith. This was the start of the Order of Preachers.

For over eight hundred years, members of the Order have built their lives on the foundation of the Four Pillars of Prayer, Study, Community, and Preaching. These same Pillars are the foundation of our faith life at Marian Catholic.

The great Dominican Saint Catherine of Siena implores us, “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” In this spirit, Marian Catholic strives to help every student discover what God is calling them to be so that they might share their gifts and talents with the world.
