Marian Catholic Remembers Senior Justin Young

A member of the Class of 2021 and a former member of the football team, Justin died in a car accident on Thursday, March 18. He was known as a loyal friend and teammate, always there to help anyone in need.

In the words of Principal Steve Tortorello ’04, “Justin Young was a kind, quiet young man who left a lasting impression on his friends, teachers, and coaches by treating everyone with respect and positivity. He will be greatly missed."

The school held a socially-distant prayer service Friday afternoon to honor Justin’s life, during which Matt Dee ’07 told the students “We need to do our best to remember him by living the way he would, and that is with respect and care and kindness toward other people." The football team also remembered Justin with a moment of silence on Saturday before the first game of the 2020-2021 season.

"Healing is a communal activity,” Mr. Tortorello said. “As a school, and as a Marian Catholic family, it is our duty and our privilege to take care of one another. While this has been a devastating time for Marian, it has also affirmed for us just how much love and sincere care there is within our walls.”

Counselors remain available to all students, both in person and virtually. Students and parents are encouraged to reach out to the Counseling or Campus Ministry staff for support.

With the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, we pray for Justin and for his family, friends, classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, and everyone affected by this tragic loss.

In loving memory of Justin Young ’21.

May the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin and all the Saints lift his soul to Heaven. We pray that God’s grace and love bring comfort to his family and friends. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
