Annual Double Duty Classic

The Chicago White Sox held the annual Double Duty Classic (DDC) – an event celebrating the history and tradition of Negro League baseball in Chicago and promoting the next generation of inner-city baseball players on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.

The game featured the best inner-city high school players dressed in retro East-West All-Star uniforms, honoring past Negro Leaguers and those who played in the historic game at Old Comiskey Park. Angelo Cantelo ’19 (Blue Island), Pierce Jones ’19 (Chicago), and Cameron Bufford ’19 (South Holland) represented Marian Catholic High School in the game. Jones, a Northern Illinois commit, received the honor of catching the ceremonial first pitch thrown by 2005 World Series Most Valuable Player and White Sox ambassador, Jermaine Dye. Additionally, Cantelo, who started for the East team as a designated hitter and plays catcher/first baseman for Marian Catholic, received the Minnie Miñoso Most Valuable Player Award.
