At Marian Catholic, the World is Your Stage!
The Marian Catholic Theater Department is designed to encourage growth, confidence, work ethic, and leadership. Whether it is through public speaking, acting, performing, dancing, singing, or technical work, members of the Marian Catholic Theater Department will gain experience in a myriad of ways that foster success. The Marian Catholic Theater Department is home.
Fall Play - A full-length play is presented with full theatrical production values. Acting, set design, and make-up are an integral part of this theatrical experience. After school rehearsals are mandatory. Auditions are held in late August.
Group Interpretation - With State Championships in 2010 and 2012, and many state placing performances since, Group Interpretation has become one of the most popular theatrical activities at Marian Catholic. Students compete at the IHSA level focusing on the art of oral interpretation and storytelling. Plays, books, movies, and adaptations are cut into a 30 minute performance featuring actors playing many characters. After school rehearsals are mandatory.
Oral Interpretation - Similar to Group Interpretation, Oral Interpretation is approximately a 30 minute ensemble-based performance designed to sharpen storytelling, acting, and creative teamwork skills. Oral Interpretation performances and rehearsals are during the designated class schedule. No after school rehearsals are required.
Spring Musical - An amazing collaboration of the Theater, Speech, Choral and Band programs where students present a full length musical with solid production values. Students focus on singing, acting, and ensemble building to produce high-quality performances. Auditions are held in early January.
Stage Design Techs - Students participate in the "behind the scenes" part of Theater Department where they design, build, and learn about lighting sound, and practical scenic design. Students also participate as crew members for all of the Marian Catholic Speech and Theater productions. Sign-ups are in early September.
