Spartans eliminated by Lemont in Sweet 16 tilt

June 3- Locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel in the sixth inning, Lemont took advantage of multiple hits that just eluded fielders in a 5-0 victory over Marian Catholic in the championship contest of the Joliet Catholic IHSA 3A Sectional. Tough-luck losing hurler Katie Pollock allowed just four hits, but the Spartans (18-17) managed just two safeties of their own. Gracie Jensen and Brooke Waddle each singled for Marian.

NOTES: The Spartans last won an IHSA Sectional when they captured back-to-back crowns in 2004 and 2005. Eighteen victories represents the most wins since Marian posted a 23-12 mark in 2016. Overall, the Spartans have won 14 IHSA Regional title and four IHSA Sectional crowns. Marian enters the sectional final contest with a four-game win streak and has won seven of its last eight games. The Spartans have not played Lemont this season, but own a 3-1 mark against South Suburban Conference foes.
