Speech

Speech Team

Speech team is a competitive activity in which students compete in thirteen unique events ranging from impromptu speaking, poetry reading, radio broadcasting, to original comedy. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) governs forensics competitions in the state of Illinois.

Members of Marian Catholic’s Speech Team are highly successful, having garnered 12 Illinois High School Association Speech State Individual Championships in the last 10 years; 24 Individual IHSA Sectional Champions, and 62 Individual IHSA Regional Crowns.

In 2021, Cook County Board District 6 Commissioner Donna Miller introduced a resolution honoring Abimbola Adekoya '21, Caleb Braziel '21, and Marcus Bobbitt '23 for advancing to state finals. Signed by Board President Toni Preckwinkle, the resolution commended them on their resilience throughout a very challenging season.

Speech and debate tournament results, including the Marian Classic, as well as State Series results, are available on Speech Wire.
